Are you looking to live a fulfilling and meaningful life? Our habits shape us, and the right ones will steer you in the proper direction. Having to wake to a repetitive cycle every day, can make life feel overwhelming.

From time to time, we find ourselves frustrated by the little things we do or have to do. It could just be writing a residency interview thank you note. Making small adjustments to your routine can improve your way of life.

You can achieve this by changing the way you think and altering your behavior. It is so because your habits affect your quality of life. In this article, we will outline the practices you should consider incorporating into your daily routine for improving your quality of life.

• Continuous Rest

If you are an ardent follower of Gary Vee; you will notice that he preaches crushing it, every moment that you have. Our bodies, on the other hand, need to rejuvenate and re-energize on a daily basis. If not, it will crash.

You need to get proper rest. You don’t have to sleep or wake up at a specific time. It all depends on what your body and mind need. Ensure that you get adequate rest each day. You can do so by identifying the right time to go to bed, and the ideal time to wake up.

It will help you feel energized and ready to handle whatever comes to you, and also remain healthy. Sleep deficiency also affects one’s mood.

• Express Gratitude

We cannot deny that there are days when you feel like it’s a day in hell. But you have to learn to be grateful. Don’t dwell on the things that went wrong, and affected the outlook of the whole day.

Each day, spend a few minutes, say 30 minutes, listing down, all the things that you are grateful for. When you search diligently, you can’t miss finding at least two things. At the top of my head, you are alive, breathing, and have another shot of working on the thank you note after residency interview.

If possible, get a friend who will ask you about the things you are grateful for, each day.

• Exercise

Daily exercise is necessary for a healthy lifestyle. Just twenty minutes each day is right for you. Yes, life can get in the way. The after office hours are often tedious and by then you are damn exhausted and only look forward to spending time on your couch.

Don’t allow yourself to suffer due to the lack of vitality. Try something that will cause you to break a sweat and get your heart pumping. You need to move your body. Do some yoga, or go for light jogging.

Start small as you build up your routine.

• Brush and Floss

It may seem like a no-brainer, but it is necessary to remind those who may forget. Brushing and flossing of teeth, also save lives. According to the American Dental Association, one has to brush their teeth for two minutes and twice each day.

For flossing, once a day is good enough. It prevents tooth decay and gingivitis. If gum disease isn’t treated, it may lead to delayed conception in women, erectile dysfunction in men, and even heart disease.

Patients with gum disease can also suffer memory loss, rheumatoid arthritis, and inflammation of the joint.

• No Electronic Devices in Bed

Here, we refer to phones, tablets, computers and anything that will affect your sleep. Ever wondered why when the sunlight strikes your eyes, you lose sleep immediately? It is because the sun emits high levels of blue light.

This light halts the production of the sleep-inducing hormone. And this makes you feel alert. Our phones, computers, and tablets, release blue light of short wavelength. It, in turn, impairs the production of melatonin and affects your ability to fall asleep.

Also, blue light has an impact on the quality of your sleep, even if you still nod off. It plays a significant role in determining one’s energy levels, and mood. Avoid such devices after dinner. That means you have to work on your residency interview thank you letter, before the last meal of the day.

• Always Smile

Try to smile to alleviate your moods, even when you are stressed or feel depressed. Studies show that the act of smiling, alters one’s neurochemistry, by sending a strong impulse to the mind. Do this, every day for about 15 or 20 minutes.

After a stressful activity, it will help you lower your heart rate. If you can’t smile on your own, then put a pencil in your mouth.

Conclusion

Our habits affect our physical and mental state. Poor habits will deplete your vitality and energy levels. You don’t have to change your entire daily routine, start in small portions.
